Yellow: My Favorite Color

Rainbow consists of seven colors violet, indigo, blue, green, yellow, orange, and red. We have a VIBGYOR, the popular way to remember the colors in the correct sequence. Please do not consider this blog post as an educational post at all.

What are Colors?

Colors or colours (whichever you prefer) if we go into physics and all is associated with the visible spectrum of electromagnetic radiation. Or, in simpler words what is perceived through our eyes depending upon the wavelength of visible light is called color.

The white light that we see is a combination of seven colors in the sequence VIBGYOR. What we studied in our schools was that when sunlight passes through the prism, we see seven colors that are also present in the rainbow. This is the reason why I started this post with rainbow.

So, this was about the white light or white color. What is about the color black? Black color is considered as the darkest color. Either it absorbs all the wavelengths of a visible light or it has no wavelength at all.

In simpler terms, black color has no color at all while the white color has all the colors in it. Thus, white light gives seven colors while black light shows nothing. Because black light absorbs all the colors or has no color. This is the reason why white and black are not considered as colors. They are just referred as light that either scatters all the colors or absorbs all the colors.

You might have noticed that when you wear a white color cloth, any stain on the cloth is visible. On the other hand, when you wear a black cloth, no stain, whatsoever is visible on that cloth.

Because, as I explained earlier, black cloth absorbs all the colors of the stain and nothing is visible while the white cloth scattered the particular wavelength of the color and the stain is visible.

This is the reason why hospitals generally have white bed sheets or pillow covers on bed so that any kind of stain or dirt can be easily located.

This was just to give you an idea about the colors, if in any case you have forgotten. Now, coming on the topic of today’s blog post. My favorite color is yellow. There must be your favorite color too. You can share with me.
