Today is day 2, dwitiya of Chaitra Navratri (festival of nine days) in Hinduism. In all these nine days, we worship different forms of Goddess Durga.
On day 2, Maa Brahmacharini is worshiped and honored. She symbolises knowledge and wisdom.
‘Brahmacharini’ means ‘one who practices brahmacharya, or self-control and devotion to knowledge.’ She’s often depicted holding a rosary and a water pot, symbolizing her pursuit of spiritual growth and self-discipline.
Maa Brahmacharini teaches us the importance of seeking knowledge and wisdom. In a world filled with distractions, her presence reminds us to focus on our inner journey and cultivate self-awareness.
As a high school teacher, I find this particularly relevant – guiding students to seek knowledge and understand the value of discipline in their own growth.
As I care for my indoor plants, I’m reminded of the nurturing aspect of Maa Brahmacharini. Just as plants need water and care to grow, our minds and souls need knowledge and self-reflection to flourish.
Let’s take a moment to reflect: What are we seeking knowledge about? What’s holding us back from pursuing our goals? Maa Brahmacharini inspires us to embrace the journey of learning and self-discovery.

Jai Maa Brahmacharini 🙏
