How To Stay Self Motivated All The Time?

People differ from each other. Some overthink while some are easy going. Some can handle the pressure while some crumble inside. So, what makes a person different from the other? There must be some personal traits or qualities that differentiate one individual from another.

There are people who talk to themselves while others do not even know what they are until realized by someone else. Some people do not always motivate others to do something but they also motivate themselves. This is self motivation.

Self motivation is a simple way to keep yourself motivated even in difficult situations. We can motivate ourselves and we do not need others to motivate us. But the question arises, how we keep ourselves buckled up all the time. Let’s find out.

What is Motivation?

This is what the Oxford Dictionary has to say about the word “motivation”. There are hell lot of materials or articles available on the internet that talk about motivation. I found the one on Very Well Mind really interesting. Give it a read if you want to know more.

Motivation is the force that drives us in achieving the goals of our lives and keep us moving. Lack of motivation leads to unfinished goals, lack of zeal in life, and self interest.

Either we can motivate ourselves or get motivated by others. It is easy to get motivated by the speeches of motivational speakers or motivational quotes. But such a motivation does not last longer. Once we get busy in our lives or daily routine, we tend to forget what someone else taught us or said to us. On the other hand, if we are motivated by our own thoughts, we see beneficial results in long run.

How do you define motivation? What keeps you motivated? Are you self motivated? We need to ask these questions to us.

What is Self-Motivation?

Self-motivation is the personal drive that keeps a person moving and in achieving the goals. It is one of different types of motivations where the person himself is the motivator.

Not every person can be a self motivator as it is a personal trait. Self motivation is the quality of a person, of an individual. Such people differ from others in many ways.

  1. They love themselves.
  2. They know who they are and what they can do. They are self driven.
  3. They know what is good for themselves. They value themselves.
  4. They keep small goals that they can actually achieve.
  5. They have a company of people that are like minded, positive, and motivate each other.
  6. They keep themselves away from toxic and negative minded people.
  7. They have a different perspective of life and see positive things even in difficult times.
  8. They push themselves through difficult situations and always look for solving problems. They have a problem solving attitude.
  9. They have a positive attitude towards life.
  10. They never stop learning.

Now we know that self-motivation is a personal trait, if we are lacking it, we can still inculcate this trait by doing what a self motivated person does.

How To Stay Self Motivated?

Self motivation is important in everyone’s life. Self motivation helps us to manage and achieve our goals in life. Self motivation makes the life easy to live and gives a different prospective towards the challenges of life. The biggest question is how can we keep ourselves motivated even at difficult times? Let’s explore this.

Love Yourself

What we often forget to do is to lover ourselves. We frequently say to others how much we love them but we forget to tell this to ourselves. So, the first thing that we need to do, is to love ourselves.

I know I am not perfect. Who wants to be? I am happy with my flaws. I accept the way I am and I love myself for that.

There should not be any confusion between self love and self-obsession. Self love is not self-obsession. Obsession to anything is not considered good. Self love means caring yourself, and respecting your decisions. If you do not love yourself, you cannot love others. You are responsible for your own happiness, so start loving yourself.

Believe In Yourself

Believing in what we are and what we can do is important. We must have firm belief in what we think and what we are doing. If we do not believe in ourselves no one else will believe us.

Making goals is important part of life and we should always make smaller goals. This helps us keep motivating and moving. Small goals also help is from procrastination.

Once you have made your goal, stick to it. We should always respect what we have planned and should try to complete it in the given time. Albert Einstein once said “If you want to live a happy life, tie it to a goal, not to people or things.

Have A Good Company

What we are also depends on with whom we often spend our time. People surrounded with negative minded people tend to have negative views. So, its important to know whom we should hang up with. Always keep yourself surrounded with people who think like you. People who are self-motivated also motivate others to achieve their goals in life. Always make friends with people who want to do something in their lives.

Stop Overthinking

Thinking is a good quality. We should always think before doing something. This helps us in doing right things in life. But overthinking is not good. Overthinking on small things deviates us from our goals. Overthinking leads to negative thinking and we get stuck in our own thoughts.

Be A Problem Solver

Self motivated people do not ask question “why“. They often ask “how“. They believe in solving a problem rather that thinking about the problem itself. Sometimes, “why this happened to me” has no answer but “how will I come out of it” has. So rather discussing about the problem discuss about the solution. Try to solve the problem and be a problem solver.

This is something that I learned from my husband. Whenever we have any difficult situation in our life, I start complaining while he starts thinking as how to come out of that difficult situation.

Be A Learner

This is something I always believe in. We should never stop learning. Learning keeps us moving and motivating. We can learn everyday from our day to day problems or from other people.

Be A Positive Person

Positivity plays an important role in our lives. When we start looking at any situation with positive mind, half of the problem is solved automatically. We should always look for good things even in bad situations. This keeps us motivated and gives a positive attitude towards solving that problem.

Motivational Monday

How about starting your week with motivating and inspiring quote? Isn’t it a great idea?

Monday generally tends to be boring as we have to go back to our schedule. While for some Monday is really exciting. It all depends on how we see things. Since the week begins with Monday we usually want to begin the week with positivity and determination.

Motivational quotes help a lot in bringing out the best of us. Don’t you agree on this? So, today I am going to share a very interesting and motivating quote that I just found. I couldn’t think twice before choosing it for today’s post.

Just when the caterpillar thought the world was over, it became a butterfly.

If you are aware of the life cycle of a butterfly 🦋 then you must understand the impact of the proverb. Anyways, let me explain you. Butterfly has a very interesting life cycle.

Life cycle of a Butterfly:

Egg is the first step of the life cycle of a butterfly that hatches into a larvae known as a caterpillar. Caterpillar is super hungry and keeps feeding on various thing to just grow and become fat. Once it’s all grown up, it attaches to a leaf and curls up to form a cocoon into which the pupa resides. After sometime the cocoon opens up and a beautiful butterfly comes out of the cocoon.

We see that each and every step starting from the egg to the butterfly, is very important in the life cycle of the butterfly. None of the steps can be missed and play their important role in the formation of the butterfly.

If you see with curiosity, you will find that the larval stage of the butterfly when it was a caterpillar was the adverse phase of its life when it had to continuous look for food and keep eating and growing. In the pupal stage, inside the cocoon, the pupa rests. This is the most relaxing days in the life of a butterfly. In this stage only the transformation of a pupa into a butterfly takes place. Such changes in biology is called metamorphosis.

There is a very nice video on the transformation of a caterpillar into a butterfly. It is called “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” by Eric Carle. I came across this animated film when my 5 years old son got this video as a lesson to be done during remote learning. The link of the video is here. If you have children at home, please show them this video. They will never forget the life cycle of a butterfly.

What the Proverb Tells Us?

This proverb tries to tell us that you never know when the good days will come. You might think that this is the end of the life and then it completely turns around to be the best days if your life.

Never lose hope. You never know when are your prayers accepted. You never know when will the ugly days are going to convert into beautiful days. Just like the creepy caterpillar converted into a gorgeous butterfly that can fly. A caterpillar never knows that it will convert into a butterfly when the right time will come. It never knows that it will have wings and would be able to fly high up in the sky. Similarly we aren’t aware of the future. We don’t know what is going to happen with us in the future. Thus we should just use our present to make a beautiful tomorrow.

Perseverance is important. When we have bad days, we often end up losing hope and we start complaining and blaming. On the other hand, in bad days when things aren’t in our favor, we shouldn’t give up. We should still have the hope that everything will turn for good. We should use that time to help us grow strong.

Change is for Good. We should always remember that change is the only constant in nature. In case of the conversion of a caterpillar to a butterfly, the change happened for the betterment of the caterpillar. We should also have trust in the change.

Leave the comfort zone. Hadn’t a pupa came out of its comfortable cocoon it would have never turned into a butterfly. Who doesn’t want to live and work in their comfort zone? Think, what happens when we leave our comfort zone. Transformation occurs. Once we leave our comfort zone and try to do something else with full confidence and hard work, transformation occurs within us. The sleepy and relaxing pupa within us metamorphoses into a beautiful butterfly.

The motivation for today is to stop worrying about the future and things that we cannot control. Let’s concentrate on the present. Enjoy our present. Live in the present. Learn from the past.

Worrying is just a waste of time. We keep worrying about our future which we aren’t aware of. We don’t know what is going to happen and we keep worrying about it. Worrying never solves a problem yet it creates other physical and mental illness.

People who worry a lot, forget about enjoying the present. This often happens with me. Sometimes I get so much worried about the future that I forget about my beautiful present.

Future is and will never be in our control. We must learn to live in the present. This is the key to happiness.

So, let’s live, learn and grow in the present. Present is what we have now. With this motivational quote I would like to start my week.

We actually learn from our mistakes that led to failures. We grow, learn and experience new things from our failures.

Spread Positivity

At the moment there are all sorts of news that are constantly filling our brains with negativity and the toughest part is, we can’t ignore them. In the months of March and April I was so much engrossed in the news of COVID-19 that sometimes it felt that everything is falling apart and this world is going to end.

Then I decided not to watch any news related to the pandemic, not to react with any memes or messages sent on any social platform, etc. This helped me a lot. I ignored any messages of COVID-19 that were sent on WhatsApp groups.

Being a microbiologist, I knew social distancing, using masks and gloves and maintaining personal hygiene is important. Eating healthy and boosting immunity is important as we don’t have the vaccine yet. So, I sticked to these religiously. Things started getting better. I felt reduction in my negative thoughts.

Positivity and negativity impacts our mind and body in different ways. Science also proves the impact of positive and negative thoughts on our body and mind.

In present scenario our mind constantly receives news related to COVID-19. Everyone talks about it. In the news, any digital platform and at homes we knowingly or unknowingly keep talking about the deadly virus. Our minds are overwhelmed with the negativity.

So we need to cleanse our body and mind and cultivate positive thoughts. We can’t certainly remove the negativity around but we can atleast stop those thoughts from reaching us.

We can do yoga, meditate, and pray. We can spread positive words and positive thoughts because as it seems now this is the way we will be living for at least an year. Thus, we need to stay positive and healthy.

Blogging is a great platform to spread positivity. Positive thoughts are always welcomed by people as they generate positivity around us. Positive thoughts generate positive energy and heals the body.

The mind is everything, what you think you become.

Today, I am sharing four amazing thoughts by two great people who once lived in this world Gautam Buddha and Swami Vivekananda. The thoughts are inspiring and true in present world too.

I do believe in this. What we think, is what we really are. If we think positive we become a positive person and vice versa. Our thoughts make us and we see the world through our thoughts. So what we think is extremely important.

True, how we act in a situation is critical. If we act positively to a situation, even in a extremely negative situation, our fate might help us. This was what I could understand from this quote. Please let me know in the comment section, what you think about this quotation.

We often forget to talk to ourselves. Talking to ourselves everyday might help in reducing stress and negativity. It might also boost our confidence and help us in overcoming our shortcomings. So, from today, I am planning to talk to myself before going to bed and see what changes I see in myself.
