Thank you for your encouraging response on my first body language blog post . Here is another set of body language act that has certain meanings.
Holding Objects in Front of Your Body – Do you hold your coffee mug, laptop in front of you? Believe me, this body language sign indicates that you are trying to separate yourself from others. Its also shows that you prefer to maintain distance from others. Try to keep the things on your side as much as possible when you are conversing with someone.
Checking the Time or Inspecting Your Fingernails – Well this is an easy one and I think any one can guess. If you think this is the sign of ignorance, then you are not right. This is sign of boredom or lack of interest. If you are talking to someone and he/she is looking at watch it shows lack of interest in the conversation and not ignorance.
Stroking Your Chin While Looking at Someone – This generally happens when people are in decision making process. This indicates that “I am judging you”. When someone is trying to make a judgement about you then this is the common body language.
Narrowing Your Eyes – This can be a bit rude towards others. This is a clear indication of “I don’t like your idea or you”. It gives a different posture to your face. Many time people may think that narrowing or closing eyes shows relaxing or calmness, but this can be a sign of rudeness. Slightly narrowing your eyes shows a sign of anger. It is strongly suggested to avoid this while talking to someone.
Standing Too Close – Isn’t it that makes you uncomfortable when some is standing too close to you while talking? This language makes other uncomfortable. It might be unintentional, but it does make others uncomfortable. On the other hand people do stand close when they want to do back biting or gossips. 🙂 It is advisable to maintain a decent distance while conversing so that no one feels the discomfort.
Looking Down While in a Conversation: This shows the disinterest of the other’s presence. You should always have a direct eye contact when you are talking to some one.
Touching Your Face During a Conversation: Are you lying? If you are, you might be touching your face during a conversation. This act involves touching your nose covering your mouth with a hand. This is a clear sign that you are lying or you are trying to hide some information during a discussion. So when you are talking to someone please avoid covering your face or trying to put your hand.
Resting Hands Behind the Head or on the Hips – This is very common one. When people are doing these acts they might think that they are relaxing but this is a sign of superiority. This is the act which shows that you are trying to show yourself superior than the other person.
Not Directly Facing the Person You are Speaking To – Isn’t it very common that when you’re really interested in talking to someone you will actually face that person and talk? So, in other words, not directly facing the person while you’re speaking shows a lack of interest or discomfort.
Scratching at the Backside of Your Head and Neck – This action shows that you are in doubt or uncertainty. When you are scratching back side of your head or neck it shows that you have 2 or more than 2 views in your mind.
Foot and Finger Tapping – This body language sign shows that you are getting bored, your disagreement or you are in stress. When you landed in a discussion where you don’t want to be, this might happen with you.
Stay tuned for more on body language and thank you once again for encouraging the writing.
